The board blinked RED DELAYED. My ticket said Vienna, Platform 9. The woman next to me checked hers: Venice, also Platform 9. "That's not..." she started. "Impossible," I finished. The announcement: both trains stuck, no time. We looked at each other. "This feels personal," she said. I laughed. "Like the universe is deciding for us."

I opened my mouth, then closed it. She didn't look at me. Both our tickets said Platform 9 but the board had gone dark. I finally tried: "Weird timing, huh?" She glanced over. "Yeah." That was it. We went back to waiting. I wanted to say something else but the moment had passed.

Five minutes later she spoke without looking at me. "I'm Alex. Going to Venice." "Theo. Vienna." She nodded. "Why Venice?" I asked. She shifted. "Running from something. Trying to figure out if it's the place or me." "And Vienna?" she asked. "Same." She looked at me then, really looked. "Maybe we're both looking for the same answer."
