The GPS brought me to an old house in the middle of nowhere. Weathered, empty-looking, windows dark. There was a mailbox with a name: Harrison. I didn't recognize it. But the star was right here, marked three times in thick pen.

I got out of the car slowly. The house was definitely empty—but not abandoned. There was fresh soil by the mailbox, like something had been planted. Pulled up. My hands wouldn't stop shaking.

I dug up the newspaper archive. Harrison—drunk, speeding. He hit a family car. Everyone survived, but reading the report, I recognized a name: my great-grandmother, age 12. She was in that car. Twenty years before my grandma was even born, and she almost died that day.
