He stood up and looked for someone to ask. At the far end, a small ticket window glowed with yellow light. An old clerk sat behind the glass, watching him. The man hurried over and held up the ticket. "Where is Veliska?" he asked.

Instead of answering, the clerk asked, "What's your name?" The man opened his mouth and found nothing there. The clerk nodded slowly, like he had expected that. "Veliska takes your name first," he said. "That's how you know you're already on your way."

"Then help me get it back," the man begged. The clerk handed him a small bell. "Ring this when the train stops. Your name will come when you hear it spoken." The man boarded, and at the first stop he rang the bell. A voice called out a name. It was his, and everything came flooding back.
