As he reached the door, a hand grabbed his shoulder. A woman in a gray coat pulled him back. "Not yet," she whispered. "If you board without your memory, you'll ride forever. I've been waiting here to stop you. Come with me first."
He shook off her hand. "I have to know what Veliska is," he said, and jumped onto the train. The doors closed. The woman's face filled the window, mouthing "I'm sorry." Then the lights went out, and the man understood he would ride this train, forgetting and boarding, forever.
