The Last Train to Nowhere

He decided to search the station instead of waiting. He checked his jacket again and found a folded map tucked in the lining. He opened it and read every city name. Veliska was not on it. But someone had drawn a small red circle in an empty spot, where no town should be.

He folded the map and pushed it back in his pocket. As he did, his fingers brushed something he'd missed: a photograph. It showed him smiling beside a woman, with a sign behind them that read "Welcome to Veliska." So the place was real, and he had been there.

He stared at the woman in the photo and a single memory broke through: her laugh, her voice saying his name. "Daniel," he whispered. It was his name. Down the track, a train rolled in and its doors slid open. He ran for it, finally knowing who he was.
