The lead ship's captain saw her lantern and spun the wheel hard. The ship groaned, tilted, and just scraped past the rocks into safe water. But the two ships behind didn't see her in time. Edda's heart sank as they kept coming.
Edda dropped the lantern and yanked out her pen. On the chart she scribbled a wide sandy beach right where the rocks were. The two ships shuddered, then slid up onto soft sand instead of breaking apart. Sailors splashed into the shallows, soaked and shaken but completely alive. Edda sat down hard, amazed her ink had saved them.
