Halfway out, a storm rolled in fast. Waves slammed the little boat and the map flew from my hands toward the water. I lunged and caught it, soaked but safe. Reyes gripped the wheel. 'The sea doesn't want you to know,' he shouted. 'Still going?'

'Turn back,' I said. The storm was too strong. We limped home and I felt like a coward. But that night I read the back of the map by lamplight and found tiny words I'd missed: 'Not all stars are wounds. Some are where I was saved.' I'd go back. Next time, ready.
