Sefu pulled a wooden box from under the floorboards. It was heavy. Sefu: 'He left this. And a key.' The key was brass. Still shiny like he'd cleaned it recently. Sefu: 'For the basement. The door we were never supposed to open.'

Sefu was already moving to the basement door. Me: 'Wait. We don't know—' He slid the key in. The lock clicked. The door opened. The smell hit us. Plants. Something alive and growing. Sefu: 'Oh.'
