The Last Bus on Marrow Street
dramaEveryone6 contributors · 4 paragraphs deep
Mrs. Chen gets on at Fifth and Park. Thirty years on this route, like me. She sits down wet. 'You see a woman? Red coat? Around Elm?' My hands tighten. 'No. Why?' She doesn't answer.
'You knew her?' I ask. Mrs. Chen nods slowly. 'She was on the first bus I ever took. Thirty years ago. She was old then too. Always the same coat. Always alone. Always watching the windows.' 'Watching for what?' No answer.

A possible continuation
'She took your route on the same night every winter,' Mrs. Chen says. 'For thirty years. Never missed. And nobody ever asked who she was or why. You didn't. I didn't. And now she's gone.' The bus is very quiet. The route dies in seven nights. So did she, I think. On a different kind of schedule.
