Pip pressed her thumb on the screen and held it. The numbers froze at 7:01. "I'm holding it back," she gasped. "But it's pushing. It really wants to hit 7:02." Her arm shook. "I can't do this forever. Somebody figure out the rest, fast!"
While Pip held the clock at 7:01, the others threw open the curtains. Outside wasn't a yard. It was the same gray room, over and over, forever. "That's where the loop lives," Mara whispered. They slammed the window shut hard. The hum choked off, the numbers went dark, and warm daylight finally poured in. They were free.
