Mara grabbed the note from inside the clock and read it again. "It says the morning only lets you go if you give it back what it gave you." She turned the note over. On the back was one word: pancakes. They all looked at the plates.
Theo decided to eat ALL the pancakes instead, to use them up. He shoveled them down fast. The gray crept up his arms like cold paint. "That's the opposite of giving it back!" Pip yelled, but it was too late. The clock blinked 7:02, and the loop swallowed them again.
