Halfway through the build, Mara noticed Theo wincing every time he lifted a stone. She finally cornered him. "My back's not what it was," he admitted, "and I'm out of savings." Mara looked at the half-finished tower and made a decision. "Then we don't do this alone. Tomorrow we ask the whole town."

So they asked the town the only way Theo could manage. Kids from the school made flyers, and Mara walked them door to door while Theo rested his back. By Friday, twenty neighbors had signed up to lift the stone he couldn't. On opening night they handed Theo the match, and the light swung out over the dark water.
