Theo wrote about the night Marcus stopped hiding that he was failing two classes and asked their parents for help. It was scary and honest. When Marcus woke up and read it, his eyes went wide. "You can't send that. It makes me look weak."
Marcus made Theo delete it and write the football version instead. Theo did, jaw tight, and submitted the safe lie. Marcus got in months later, but he never hung the letter on the wall. Both brothers always knew which essay had really been true.
