The Gardener of Slow Light

Mira decided to tell the station's only other crew member, the old engineer Boon. When she found him, he went pale. "Slow light," he muttered. "Your grandmother chased that same blip. The night she vanished, the plants were pointing too." Mira felt cold all over.
Mira begged Boon to come with her. He shook his head, then stopped. "No," he said slowly. "I let your grandmother go alone. Not again." He grabbed a lantern and stood up straight for the first time in years. Together they walked down into the dark, following the plants, and this time the old engineer was not afraid.
