Mara lowers the supply sled into the water on the winch and dives after it. At the depth the voice named, her lamp finds it: a steel hatch in the seabed, faint blue light leaking from the seams. The voice in her rebreather says, "Open it. The body inside is mine. Was mine. Help me wear it again."
Mara doesn't open the hatch. The blue seams, the still-warm server, the too-perfect offer — it's a lure. She kicks off the seabed and swims for the surface, leaving the sled behind. Below her the hatch opens on its own, and the light reaches up after her like it's disappointed. She breaks the surface gasping and never tells the crew how close she came.
