Wren remembered Nana's rule: a wish mends when you say it kindly and true. She opened the jar and whispered, 'Stay warm for the ones who eat you, then rest.' The red glow softened to gold. The loaves cooled to a perfect warmth, and Tomas laughed with relief.
As the loaves cooled, the jar grew light as a feather and its glow faded out, the work done. Wren let out a long breath and smiled. The first wish was safe. She had two names left and a whole day ahead, but for one quiet moment, the warm bakery felt exactly right.
