Pip spotted a loose board beside the case and wiggled it free. Behind it hung a small key on a string. She fit it into the rusty padlock, and with a squeak the case swung open. She lifted out the missing map half and pressed the two torn edges together. They matched perfectly.
Just as the halves clicked together, a salty voice barked, "That map belongs to the harbor!" An old fisherman with a silver beard stepped from the shadows. He saw Pip's joined map, and his face softened into a smile. "Forty years I hid that half, hoping a kid like you would find it. Come on. I'll show you what it leads to."
