The wall slid aside to reveal a narrow stairway going down. At the bottom, a lantern flickered. A woman in old mining gear looked up at us, startled. "You found Hennig's map too?" she said, half laughing, half crying. "I've been lost down here for two days. Please—help me get out."
We gave the woman our spare water and guided her up through the hidden passage. She knew the old tunnels and showed us a faster way out. At the top, blinking in the sun, she gripped my arm. "Hennig's gold is real," she whispered, "but it's bad luck. Promise me you'll let it rest." We promised.
