The Dragon Who Hoarded Names
fantasyEveryone5 contributors · 4 paragraphs deep
The crack opened into a smaller cave behind Vesper's hoard. From here the girl could see the dragon sleeping, and just past her tail, the brightest coin of all, glowing alone. The frost fox looked up at the girl, then at the coin, as if to say: that one. Take that one.
The girl crept close and lifted the bright coin. The instant she touched it, the fox shimmered and grew into a young woman, free at last. 'That was my name,' she breathed. 'Vesper trapped me in fur for a hundred years. You set me free.' They slipped out before the dragon stirred, and the woman gave the girl a name as thanks.
