Milo stopped. "What happens if I don't pay it back?" he asked. The librarian's gears slowed. "Then a day gets taken instead," she said. "And not always one you'd choose." Milo swallowed and stepped back toward the little door.
"No thanks," Milo said. "I'll earn my own good day." The librarian smiled, almost proud. "Good answer," she said. "Most people grab a card before I finish talking." She slid him a small candy instead. "For your honesty." The door closed gently, and the wall was brick again.
