The door was back. Milo asked to borrow a day to redo the afternoon he lost his grandma's necklace. The librarian warned him: "You can relive a day, but you can't keep two copies of it." Milo nodded. He stepped through a shimmer and landed right back on that terrible morning.
This time Milo watched the necklace carefully and caught it before it slipped down the drain. He saved it. But when he returned the borrowed day, that whole afternoon faded from his memory. He held the necklace and couldn't recall how he'd found it. Still, it was safe. That was enough.
