The Lighthouse Keeper
mysteryEveryone5 contributors · 4 paragraphs deep
Pete pulled on his boots and rowed Mara across himself. 'The last keeper was my best friend,' he said. 'He vanished one winter. Never found him. I always wondered if he just didn't want to be found.' The light flashed twice above them as they reached the rock.
At the top they found the old keeper, gray-haired and alive, warming his hands by a small lamp. He had lived quietly on the rock for forty years, flashing the light each night out of habit and love. Pete and his lost friend hugged and wept. The mystery was no monster, just a lonely man who never stopped doing his job.
