I push the lighthouse door open. It creaks. Inside, the air is cold but fresh somehow. The stairs spiral up and up. And I can hear it: click-click-click. The lamp mechanism is running. Someone wound it recently.

I climb the stairs. My legs shake. The lamp room door is open. The light mechanism is running. The switch is warm like it was just touched. But the room is empty. Except on the table: a logbook. Entries from every single night for 47 years.
