I pull up at the next light. Turn around? For what? But I do. U-turn. I drive back to Elm and Third. She's still there. Waiting. Her hand doesn't go up. Her eyes just... watch. She knows I came back.

I open the door. She looks at me like she's deciding something. Then she steps back. Walks away into the sleet. I want to call out but I don't. The light changes. I drive.

The light changes. I drive. In the mirror, she's still walking away. Her coat disappears first. Then her. The sleet swallows everything. I try not to think about it but the seven nights are all I'll think about now.
