'why won't you want me to go?' I text Jake. Long pause. 'because the last person who went in there in 1979 didn't come back out.' He sends a photo. A newspaper clipping. Keeper reported missing.
'you've been to the lighthouse?' 'once. two years ago. me and some friends. We were stupid kids.' 'and?' 'the door was locked then. but we heard something. Footsteps. Above us. in the dark. We ran.'
