Then Grandma herself typed. The chat went still. Grandma: "Wrong number or not, nobody who has seen the word biryani in this chat leaves this chat." Me: "That's not... how anything works?" Grandma: "Sunday. 6pm. You are family now." Someone sent a location pin. It was 20 minutes from my house.

Me: "I appreciate it, but I really can't come to a stranger's dinner." Grandma: "Fine." Fine? That was too easy. Sunday, 7pm, my doorbell rang. A teenager stood there holding a warm foil-covered plate. Him: "Grandma says if you won't come to the biryani, the biryani comes to you."

The biryani was the best thing I have ever eaten. I returned the plate washed, with brownies on it, because my mother raised me right. Next Sunday the teenager was back with a new plate. This has gone on for a year now. Grandma and I have never met. We just trade full plates through one confused teenager. She texts every Monday: "Rate the biryani." I always reply: "10."
