So Eli did. Each night that week, he waited the extra few seconds for stragglers. Word spread fast. By the fifth night, the 9:40 was packed with regulars who'd switched just to ride with him one last time. They brought coffee, cards, and stories. The bus felt alive again.

The crowd of regulars gave Marcus an idea. He filmed one packed ride and showed the depot board: this route still mattered. They voted to keep it running, with a younger driver Eli trained himself. The 9:40 lived on, and Eli rode it as a passenger now, smiling in the back.
