Priya traced the angle of her telescope down to the horizon. The signal wasn't deep in space at all. It lined up exactly with the old water tower across town, the one shut down for years. The "star" was a light on top of it, aimed straight up. She grabbed her bike and went.
At the water tower the gate was chained but loose. Priya squeezed through and climbed the rusty ladder. At the top sat a small machine with a blue lamp and a tiny motor, blinking out SOS on a timer. Taped to it was a note: "You solved the first clue. The next one is waiting at the planetarium." She grinned. The game was just starting.
