The Sleepover That Wouldn't End

"It's the pancakes," Mara said suddenly. "Every loop, we eat them. Every loop, it resets. What if eating them is what locks us in?" Five plates of gray cardboard pancakes sat steaming on the table. Nobody had finished theirs yet this time.

They scraped all five plates clean into the trash without taking a single bite. The clock ticked to 7:02. Nothing reset. "It worked!" Mara whispered. The numbers rolled on to 7:03, then 7:04. The longest, most beautiful minute of their lives. The morning finally let them go.
