Mireille refuses to bet years. 'New deal,' she says. 'We play for the truth. Tell me how you got stuck in that card, and I'll tell you how to get out.' The Queen goes still. For the first time, she looks afraid. Then, slowly, she nods.
The Queen tells the truth. A jealous painter loved her, and when she refused him, he trapped her in the card so no one else could have her. Mireille listens, then keeps her side of the deal. 'You're free the moment someone forgives you,' she says. 'So I do. Go.'
