Theo laughs, but it's shaky. "You pick now? After a year of bus stops?" He sits anyway. "Fine. Then say the rest of it. The thing neither of us says. I'm not getting up until one of us does." He folds his arms and waits.
They sit there stubborn, neither one breaking, until Theo snorts at how ridiculous they are. "We could be here all night," he says. "Good," Mara says. "I've got nowhere to be." Slowly his arms unfold, and his hand slides across the table to find hers. He doesn't say it yet. He doesn't have to.
