"Then I'll come with you," Mara hears herself say. Theo blinks. "You'd leave Chicago? Your mom, your job, all of it?" "For you, yeah," she says. "I think I would." Saying it out loud makes it real, and terrifying, and somehow right.
Theo goes quiet. "Mara, don't say it unless you mean it. Because I'll hold you to it, and if you back out in Seattle, I don't think I survive that." She holds his gaze. "I mean it." He exhales. "Then we figure out the details tomorrow. Tonight we just stay."
