Dead Letters to Tomorrow
sci-fiEveryone5 contributors · 5 paragraphs deep
Edwin called the town office instead of going himself. A bored clerk wrote down his warning and promised to 'look into it.' Edwin paced all day, sick with worry, not knowing if anyone would act in time.
The clerk forgot all about it. The bridge fell exactly as the paper said, and five people were hurt. Edwin felt the failure like a stone in his chest. He swore he would never trust anyone else with the slot's warnings again, and went home to write his next note alone.
