Cold War, Long Light

Vesna looks at the tired woman. "Her? Why does one second of her life matter?" Calder says, "In your future, she lives and signs a treaty. In mine, she trips at 2:15, misses her meeting, and a war ends a different way." The woman picks up her tea and turns toward the door.

Vesna decides the woman has to fall, because her future needs the other version of events. She steps into the woman's path so she stumbles. Calder lunges to stop it. They collide, the woman falls hard, and the second snaps shut. But Vesna cut it wrong. The woman is hurt and won't make her meeting now, so the treaty never happens. Both futures crumble together.
