Don't Wake the Library

A girl popped up from behind the desk and handed Milo a small brass bell with the clapper taped down. "I'm Posy. Ring this soft and it keeps them sleepy," she whispered. "Ring it too hard and it wakes them. Take it. We need it to reach the side door."

Milo rang the bell as softly as he could. A gentle hush spread through the shelves, and the breathing slowed to a sleepy crawl. He and Posy tiptoed to the side door, turned the latch with a tiny click, and slipped out into the cool night. Behind them, the library kept on sleeping.
